Private and NHS dentistry: are they different?
Viva Dental Studio is a private practice.
Clinically, we are the same as an NHS provider.
Our dentists have studied and qualified in the same dental schools as our NHS colleagues; and we are regularly inspected for our clinical and professional competency.
The main differences lie in
- · the range of treatments
- · the accessibility of appointments
- · the cost.
Search ‘private dentist’ online and one of the first results is always cost.
However, unless you are:
- · Under 18 years of age, or under 19 and in full-time education
- · Pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months
- · Registered for specific benefits (read here)
- · Or attending an NHS dental hospital
you will pay when you attend an NHS dentist, including hygienist services.
In addition to essential clinical treatment, at Viva Dental Studio we are able to offer more advanced techniques and processes. These range from state of the art whitening processes to implants, veneers and orthodontics.
Can I be registered with an NHS dentist and still have treatment with a private dentist?
Absolutely.
Some of our patients come to us for procedures that their NHS dentist does not offer, e.g. implants or a bridge to replace missing teeth, or to see our hygienists.
You cannot be removed from an NHS dentist’s list if you see a private provider.
I do not live near Hornchurch, can I still come to Viva Dental?
Again, yes. A private dentist is not bound by catchment areas as an NHS dentist is; if you can travel to us, we will treat you.
We offer extended opening hours, weekend and emergency dentist appointments for children and adults.
We value our NHS colleagues highly, but we are aware of the challenge in registering with an NHS dentist in recent years. We can offer a trusted and cost effective option for all your dental health needs.
