Which foods should I avoid when wearing braces?

Braces

Braces which are fixed onto the teeth can cause some challenges with eating. There is a risk that the brackets of the brace can come off when excessively hard or sticky foods are eaten. Chewing can be considerably challenged and a softer diet will be best to be adopted.

Hard and chewy foods are best avoided when you are wearing braces. These can include the following:

  • Nuts
  • Hard chocolates
  • Toffees
  • Chewing gum
  • Toasted bread
  • French Toast
  • Crusty rolls
  • Pop corn

The best foods to have will include a soft diet. This include the following:

  • Soups
  • Soft bread
  • Pasta
  • Mashed foods
  • Bananas
  • Cheese
  • Grapes
  • Smoothies

Food can get trapped in between the braces components and it is important that this is removed to ensure no tooth damage can occur. We have another blog post in which we talk about the common brace problems and how you can overcome them.
