What should I avoid with Braces?

Braces which are fixed onto the teeth can cause some challenges with eating. There is a risk that the brackets of the brace can come off when excessively hard or sticky foods are eaten. Chewing can be considerably challenged and a softer diet will be best to be adopted.

Which foods should I avoid with braces?

Hard and chewy foods are best avoided when you are wearing braces. These can include the following:

  • Nuts
  • Hard chocolates
  • Toffees
  • Chewing gum
  • Toasted bread
  • French Toast
  • Crusty rolls
  • Pop corn

The best foods to have will include a soft diet. This include the following

  • Soups
  • Soft bread
  • Pasta
  • Mashed foods
  • Bananas
  • Cheese
  • Grapes
  • Smoothies

With all foods, it is important to avoid foods you are allergic to. It is equally important to have a well balanced diet so you do not miss out of the important vitamins and nutrients that the food has to offer. Food can get trapped in between the braces components and it is important that this is removed to ensure no tooth damage can occur.
